Metallographic preparation of carbide drill tips

This application note discusses the metallographic preparation of carbide drill tips. The goal of the preparation process is to ensure that the samples are free of deformation and scratches. The use of the VEGA diamond grinding disc with metal bonding and the polishing process using SIGMA and ZETA diamond suspensions is described, along with the equipment used for the preparation process with the parameters for the pre-grinding, grinding, and polishing steps. The application note includes several micrographs of the prepared samples at different magnifications.
