Purification of Vanillin by a Combination of Flash and Preparative HPLC with the PLC 2250

Purification of Vanillin by a Combination of Flash and Preparative HPLC with the PLC 2250

Vanillin, known best as the principle flavor component of vanilla extract, has been shown to exhibit some bioactive properties. Many phenolic compounds found in plants have been shown to exhibit analgesic, antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, antipyretic and immunomodulatory properties. The manual isolation of these compounds can be time-consuming, difficult, and lead to inconsistent results. This application note demonstrates an automated single platform solution for bulk flash purification and refined preparatory HPLC using the Gilson PLC 2250 for the purification of vanillin.
