Quantitative Prediction of Tobacco Components using Near-Infrared Diffuse Reflectance Spectroscopy

4 Oct 2017

Chemical analysis is an important task in the tobacco processing industry. The composition of tobacco leaves vary depending on where the tobacco was grown and the local climate. Near-infrared spectroscopy has recently been used alongside automatic analyzers for quality control purposes. In this application note, B&W Tek demonstrate the ability of the i-Spec® Plus portable diffuse reflectance NIR spectrometer to accurately predict the amount of nicotine, sugar and chloride in tobacco.
