Real-time roadside SIFT-MS monitoring: Unreported VOC emissions from road transport

20 Feb 2024

Selected ion flow tube mass spectrometry (SIFT-MS) provides selective, real-time analysis of a wide range of volatile compounds in a robust platform that is ideally suited to mobile monitoring of VOCs. The Wolfson Atmospheric Chemistry Laboratory (WACL) at the University of York, UK, has adopted SIFT-MS for the analysis of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in its WACL Air Sampling Platform (WASP). This application note from Syft Technologies details how the platform was used to experimentally verify that motor vehicle screen wash is a significant unreported source of VOC emissions (especially for ethanol and methanol).
