S100B as a Biomarker for Ca2+ Signaling Dysregulation in Schizophrenia

29 May 2016

S100B is a recognized biomarker for traumatic brain injury (TBI) and several chronic neurological disorders, such as Schizophrenia. This application note describes a study using an ELISA that was designed to measure S100B in plasma, serum and CSF. Measurement of S100B in blood is more convenient than measuring cerebrospinal fluid (CSF), since routine blood tests are almost invariably conducted on admission to the hospital in psychiatric patients whereas lumbar punctures for CSF analysis are extremely rare in these settings.
