Serotonin-Induced Pharyngeal Pumping in C. elegans using the ScreenChip System

17 May 2017

The neuromodulator serotonin (5HT) is often used to stimulate pharyngeal pumping in C. elegans. This application note presents a study which investigates the concentration-dependence of 5HT treatment on pump frequency, measured by recording electropharyngeograms (EPGs) from individual worms using the ScreenChip platform. The results show that, as expected, serotonin (5HT) stimulated pharyngeal pumping in a concentration-dependent manner in adult worms in the ScreenChip system.
