Simplification of the ASTM D3606 Method for the Determination of Benzene and Toluene in Gasoline
11 Jan 2013Benzene is a toxic air pollutant used as an additive in gasoline and is known to have carcinogenic effects. To meet specific limits of benzene, an accurate quantitative determination of the compound is essential to the assessment of potential health hazards to persons handling and using gasoline. This application note demonstrates the use of the instant connect split/splitless (SSL) injector with backflush capabilities to offer a simple, compact and convenient hardware solution that keeps the analytical column and the detector cleaner than traditional methods. It also reveals the TRACE™ 1310 GC to be a versatile system to perform gasoline analysis with excellent reproducibility and repeatability.
