The Faraday cage – What is it? How does it work?

7 Feb 2025

Electrochemical testing can be extremely sensitive to sources of electronic noise in the research laboratory because of the small electric current signals measured. There are several ways to mitigate this. First, remove the source of electronic noise. Second, shield your entire electrochemical cell from the electronic noise. The second choice is more practical because of the availability of Faraday cages.

Explore what a Faraday cage is, how it works, and when to use one in combination with a potentiostat. Using the correct Faraday cage setup with a high-performance potentiostat will allow meaningful information to be extracted from any electrochemical test that is run.
