The Role of Particle Morphology in Biotechnology

The Role of Particle Morphology in Biotechnology

21 Oct 2015

Particle morphology is an important parameter in the successful cultivation of many microorganisms within the fermenter, and it is also an important factor in the efficient harvesting and downstream processing of the bioreactor products. This application note emphasizes the role of particle size and morphology in the operational performance of relevant biological processes. Experimental results investigating the growth of filamentous organisms (including fungi and bacterial strains) and plant cell suspensions are used to illustrate the issues raised.
