The Tip of the Iceberg: How Pipette Tips Influence Results

3 Mar 2016

This application note demonstrates the influence of pipette tip quality in the production of accurate pipetting results. The standard ISO 8655:2002 recommends using pipettes and tips from the same supplier, but as pipette tips are only consumables, they are not usually selected with quality in mind. As a result, consumables can have a direct impact on the quality of results. Problems with analysis results are usually linked to reagents, method and pipette but not to the pipette's consumable for example. Eppendorf standard tips have been shown to perform within permissible error tolerances regardless of the calibration method or autoclaving. Here, the user is free to choose the method most suitable for his application.
