Monitoring Phagocytosis of Apoptotic Cells (Efferocytosis) with IncuCyte Live-Cell Analysis System

Time-lapse movies acquired using IncuCyte® live-cell analysis system showing real-time analysis of the engulfment of apoptotic Jurkats by the macrophage cell type J774A.1. Apoptotic and non-apoptotic Jurkats are labeled with the IncuCyte™ pHrodo^® Red Cell Labeling Kit and the apoptotic cells are phagocytosed by macrophages; as the engulfed cells enter the acidic environment of the phagosome, an increase in fluorescence is seen. IncuCyte live-cell analysis system integrated image analysis tools enable detection and measurement of the red fluorescent signal over the entire assay time-course and minimize the impact of background fluorescence. Note the clearance of apoptotic Jurkats by macrophages over time, while non-apoptotic Jurkats (lacking externalized PS) are not engulfed.
