Stan Westgard, Director of Client Services for Westgard QC, discusses the enduring challenges of quality control (QC) in laboratory diagnostics, despite technological advancements. Despite progress in diagnostics, some labs have regressed to outdated QC methods. With shrinking workforces and diminishing QC skills, modern solutions such as algorithms and AI offer hope for improving QC processes. However, Stan emphasizes the importance of human oversight to ensure these technologies make correct and effective decisions in laboratory settings.
