Dr. Ron Daniels
Dr. Ron Daniels
NHS Intensive Care Consultant, Birmingham, Chief Executive Officer of the UK Sepsis Trust, UK Sepsis Trust

Ron Daniels is an NHS Consultant in Intensive Care, based at University Hospitals Birmingham, U.K. He’s also Founder and Chief Executive of the UK Sepsis Trust and Vice-President of the Global Sepsis Alliance. In 2016 he was awarded the British Empire Medal for services to patients. Ron’s expertise lies in translational medicine and leadership. He leads the team driving dissemination of the Sepsis 6 treatment pathway and is part of the team responsible for much of the policy and media engagement around sepsis in the U.K. and elsewhere, including as a core member of the team securing the adoption of the 2017 Resolution on Sepsis by the WHO. At home, Ron’s worked with the NHS over the last 9 years to ensure that by 2019, in England, more than 80% of patients presenting with suspected sepsis were receiving appropriate antimicrobials rapidly. He is now leading a team working with his Majesty’s government to once again drive sepsis improvement work in the post pandemic era. He’s ever mindful of the perceived conflict, and the synergies and need for collaboration, with the antimicrobial stewardship agenda.

Ephraim Tsalik
Ephraim Tsalik
VP & Chief Scientific Officer, Danaher Diagnostics

Ephraim Tsalik is the VP and Chief Scientific Officer for Infectious Disease at Danaher Diagnostics and the interim Chief Medical Officer at Cepheid. He obtained his MD and PhD from Columbia University. He then completed clinical training in Internal Medicine and Infectious Diseases at Duke University while earning a Master of Health Science in Clinical Research. Dr. Tsalik joined the Duke University faculty, rising to tenured associate professor, where his research focused on host response biomarkers for infectious disease. In April 2022, Dr. Tsalik joined Danaher Diagnostics to help realize the future of infectious disease diagnostics. He remains clinically active at the Durham VA Health Care System and maintains an adjunct appointment with Duke University.

Mariam Jashi
Mariam Jashi
Chief Executive Officer, Global Sepsis Alliance

Dr. Mariam Jashi is a senior-level policymaker in Global Health, Sustainable Development and Innovative Financing bringing experience from 26 countries of Europe, Asia, Africa and Middle East. In August 2023 Dr. Jashi was elected as the First CEO of the Global Sepsis Alliance. She is the Secretary General of Medical Women’s International Association, Global Board Member of UNITE Parliamentarians Network for Global Health, and Advisory Board Chair of Tbilisi Medical Academy. Dr. Jashi is a former Member of Parliament of Georgia, Chair of the Parliamentary Committee for Education and Science, Deputy Minister of Health, Member of Parliamentary Council for Gender Equality and President of the Leading Group Secretariat on Innovative Financing for Development. Her earlier experience includes 12 years of humanitarian and development work with UNICEF, UNAIDS, other UN agencies, GAVI and the World Bank. Mariam Jashi is the recipient of the WHO Award for contribution to Polio Eradication in Europe. The Mason Fellow of Harvard Kennedy School, Dr. Jashi holds MPA degree from Harvard University, Doctor of Medicine (MD degree from AIETI Medical School, Master of Public Health (MPA) from Tbilisi State University and Public Health Certificates from Lund University and University College London.
