Unlocking the secrets of ancient Chinese artefacts with Raman spectroscopy

Prof. Philippe Colomban, CNRS Research Professor Emeritus, Sorbonne University, France, gives an insight into his research in the field of material science and the use of Raman spectroscopy to gain a greater understanding of ancient Chinese artefacts. Using Horiba technology, Prof. Colomban investigates the transfer of knowledge between China and Europe during the 17th and 18th centuries, verifies genuine ancient Chinese artefacts from fakes, and through collaboration with Horiba, uses innovative portable equipment to investigate ceramics, glass and enamelware on-site.
