The antibody detects the three bands within the 34kD region corresponding to the p34 protein and it's cleavage products. P34cdc-2 is activated and initiates the entry of cells into mitosis, where it acts to promote nuclear envelope breakdown. Expression of p34cdc-2 reflects the proliferating potential of cells.
