Description
Apoptosis inhibitor 5 (API-5) is an antiapoptotic factor that plays a role in protein assembly. API-5 negatively regulates ACIN1. By binding to ACIN1, API-5 suppresses ACIN1 cleavage from CASP3 and ACIN1-mediated DNA fragmentation. API-5 also efficiently suppresses E2F1-induced apoptosis. Low levels of API-5 enhance the cytotoxic action of the chemotherapeutic drugs.
