Description
Fibronectin is an adhesive glycoprotein with a molecular mass of 440 kDa. It is believed to be important for the formation of a provisional matrix that promotes cell adhesion and migration during wound healing. Its age-dependent increase in plasma and tissues may be accompanied in pathological states, especially in tumor growth, by its proteolytic breakdown by a number of neutral proteases. It has also shown that several of its proteolytic breakdown products exhibit unexpected and mostly harmful biological activities.

Fibronectin is a dimer molecule which in the extracellular matrix of several connective tissues and vessels, is present as an insoluble protein, but it is also present at high concentrations as a soluble plasma protein. I am evaluating fibronectin as a biomarker in lung cancer environment and how its expression levels help cancer development and inhibit apoptosis. Currently, in ELISA test kit I am comparing the level of expression of Fibronectin in cancer-treated cells (spheroid co-culture of macrophages and lung cancer cells) with anti-tumor therapy and untreated cancer cells. The level of detection is satisfactory and I have got good results so far for all the experiments I have been doing. I have been using the same antibodies for more than one year now for the same purpose. It is used in human and mouse cells (might be used for other cells but I have tried only in these 2 types of cells). The specificity & sensitivity of fibronectin monoclonal antibodies have been high & I have got good results in ELISA and WB when I have performed.
