Interleukin-2 (IL-2) is produced by T-cells in response to antigenic or mitogenic stimulation. IL-2 is required for T-cell proliferation and other activities crucial to regulation of the immune response. IL-2 also stimulates B-cells, monocytes, lymphokine-activated killer cells, NK cells and glioma cells. T-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (T-ALL) is caused by a chromosomal abberation in IL-2 gene. IL-2 (Proleukin, Chiron) is used as a treatment for patients with renal cell carcinoma and metastatic melanoma. This antibody recognizes and neutralizes mouse and rat interleukin-2.
