Description
Integrin-linked protein kinase 1 (ILK-1) is a mediator of inside-out integrin signaling and a focal adhesion protein part of the ILK-PINCH complex. This complex is considered to be one of the convergence points of integrin and growth factor signaling pathways. It is implicated in mediating cell architecture, adhesion to integrin substrates and anchorage-dependent growth in epithelial cells. ILK-1 phosphorylates beta-1 and beta-3 integrin subunits on serine and threonine residues, as well as AKT1 and GSK3B. ILK-1 is strongly expressed in heart, skeletal muscle, pancreas and kidney, and is weakly expressed in placenta, lung and liver.
