Description
Rabbit Anti-Human SMC1 (Phospho S966) polyclonal antibody for IP; IHC-P; WB. This product specifically recognises the human nuclear protein SMC1 (structural maintenance of chromosomes 1), when phosphorylated at Ser966. SMC1 is a member of the evolutionary highly conserved SMC family of ATPases which play a vital role in the organization of chromosomes during mitosis. Eukaryotic SMC1 combines with SMC3, and with the two sister-chromatid cohesion proteins Scc1 and Scc3, to form the macromolecular cohesion complex, responsible for the linking of sister chromatids during metaphase. The SMC1-SMC3 heterodimer also combines with DNA polymerase E and ligase III to form the DNA recombination complex RC-1. Studies have shown that the phosphorylation of SMC1 on residues Ser966 and Ser957 by the protein kinase ATM, occurs following irradiation damage of DNA, and is required for the activation of the ATM/NBS1-dependent S-phase checkpoint response, with the presence of BRCA1 resulting in optimal phosphorylation. Western Blotting detects a band of approximately 160kDa in HeLa whole cell lysates. Applications:IP; IHC-P; WB
