MTA2 (Metastasis-associated protein 2) is a member of the Mi-2/NuRD nucleosome and chromatin remodeling complex. MTA2 interacts with Estrogen Receptor-alpha and can function to block ER-alpha mediated transcriptional activation. Mi-2/NuRD, which also contains HDAC1 and HDAC2, methylated DNA-binding proteins and chromatin remodeling proteins, serves to repress transcription through the initiation and maintenance of repressive chromatin structure.
