Description
Neurofilament triplet L protein (NF-L) is one of the three intermediate filament proteins (L, M and H) making up neurofilaments. NF-L is involved in the maintenance of neuronal caliber. NF-L is the most abundant of the three neurofilament proteins and can form homopolymeric 10-nm filaments. Defects in NF-L are the cause of Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease type 1F and 2E, inherited disorders of the peripheral nervous system.
