Description
Nociceptin is the ligand of the opioid receptor-like receptor (OPRL1). Nociceptin acts as a transmitter in the brain by modulating nociceptive and locomotor behavior and is also involved in neuronal differentiation and development. Nociceptin is expressed predominantly in the spinal cord and brain, being more abundant in the hypothalamus and striatum. Nociceptin is a 17 aa peptide expressed as prepronociceptin that is cleaved into nociceptin, neuropeptide 1 and neuropeptide 2.
