Description
Pax-7 (Paired-box protein 7) is a member of the paired box (PAX) family of transcription factors. These proteins are DNA binding transcriptional activators and typically contain a paired box domain, an octapeptide, and a paired-type homeodomain. These genes play critical roles during mammalian development and cancer growth. The specific function of the Pax-7 gene is unknown but speculated to play a role in myogenesis. Pax-7 is involved in the specification of satellite cells in skeletal muscle. Pax-7 can bind to DNA as a heterodimer with Pax-3.
