Description
The beta-sarcoglycan (43 kDa dystrophin-associated glycoprotein, SGCB, or SGC) is a component of the sarcoglycan complex, a subcomplex of the dystrophin-glycoprotein complex which forms a link between the F-actin cytoskeleton and the extracellular matrix. Mutations in SGC gene is the cause of limb-girdle muscular dystrophy 2E (LGMD2E), an autosomal recessive degenerative myopathy characterized by pelvic and shoulder muscle wasting with onset in childhood.
