Description
Sulfapyridine is a sulfonamide antibiotic that blocks the synthesis of dihydrofolic acid by inhibiting the enzyme dihydropteroate synthase in bacteria. Sulphapyridine is not used in humans anymore due to negative side effects. It became a famous as the drug that cured Winston Churchill’s bacterial pneumonia in 1942.
