Tubulin-beta (TUBB1) is the major constituent of microtubules. Tubulin-beta binds two moles of GTP, one at an exchangeable site on the beta chain and one at a non-exchangeable site on the alpha-chain. Defects in tubulin-beta are a cause of macrothrombocytopenia autosomal dominant tubulin-beta disorder (MAD-TUBB1), a congenital blood disorder characterized by increased platelet size and decreased number of circulating platelets
