All-in-one systems for live cell imaging

16 Jul 2006

Introduced specifically for investigating live cell processes, the Olympus cell^M and cell^R are highly advanced fluorescence imaging workstations.

At the top end of the Olympus cell* family of imaging products, both offer specialised all-in-one Illumination Systems with highly sensitive digital cameras for multicolour fluorescence time-lapse image acquisition. Their imaging software package features the intuitive Experiment Manager - a user friendly graphical interface enabling easy set up and execution of even the most complex experiments, with minimal training.

The revolutionary cell^R boasts real time capability for a broad range of life science experiments. Its unique all-in-one MT20 Illumination System, allowing ultra-fast wavelength switching and attenuation, is specifically designed to meet experimental requirements for real time image acquisition by highly sensitive CCD cameras. A dedicated real time controller synchronises all hardware and peripheral devices whilst functioning independently of the imaging computer. This enables precise synchronisation of sample illumination and image acquisition, minimising phototoxicity and bleaching.

The cell^M is also a highly integrated, multi-device imaging station for sophisticated fluorescence applications and live cell experiments. cell^M uses the MT10 Illumination System which is designed to meet experimental requirements for multi-colour fluorescence time-lapse image acquisition also using high sensitivity CCD cameras.

The user friendly Olympus software guiding both systems features an ‘Experiment Manager’ to enable convenient and concise experimental set up. Drag & Drop icons represent simple commands, groups of commands or entire sub-experiments. Individual exposure times, attentuation values and online analyses can be set for each image acqusition command. Experiment plans are also automatically stored together with the image data in the database.

Ensuring seamless workstation integration, both cell^R and cell^M system solutions are composed entirely of Olympus software, hardware control, illumination systems and microscopes throughout.
