Aperio, a provider of ePathology Solutions, has announced that its AT Turbo and CS model ScanScope® systems have been CE Marked in the European Union under the In Vitro Diagnostics Directive. Aperio ePathology Solutions allow glass slides to be captured as whole-slide images, or eSlides, that can then be viewed by pathologists at any location for their diagnostic opinion. The systems are designed to be used as a primary in vitro diagnostic aid.

“The adoption of ePathology in Europe has been accelerated as healthcare organizations face even greater regional and global imbalances of pathology expertise available for patient care,” said David Schlotterbeck, CEO of Aperio.

In an effort to expand access to high quality pathology diagnostics to more communities in the Region Skåne, Aperio is implementing an ePathology Network throughout Helsingborg, Kristianstad, Lund, and Malmö, Sweden. “The CE Mark supports our belief that the Aperio ePathology System will support our pathology practice. We are now working to complete our laboratory and clinical validation to confirm comparable results in our laboratories,” states Dr. Lena Luts, Director of Clinical Pathology at University and Regional Laboratories, Skåne, Sweden.
