Applications advances enabled by universal and selective HPLC detection systems

21 May 2007

ESA Biosciences Inc., a leader in advanced HPLC systems for clinical diagnostics, life sciences, and pharmaceutical markets worldwide, has announced that it will present compelling new applications developments for its Corona® CAD® and electrochemical detection systems at the forthcoming HPLC 2007 meeting in Ghent, Belgium (June 17-21st).

Poster highlights will include: Determination of neuroactive drugs and degradation products ; Methods for determination of surfactants & isomer / congener speciation ; An improved EC-HPLC method for the determination of azithromycin ; Measurement of media components in fermentation broths ; Quantification of 25-Hydroxyvitamin D2 & D3 in plasma or serum and Online synthesis & analysis of small molecule metabolites in drug discovery.

Looking to the meeting, Eddie Goodall (General Manager - Europe) commented, "Visitors to the ESA stand 16 will see flexible, applications-focused universal and high-sensitivity electrochemical-detection systems designed to help scientists do their jobs better, faster, and easier - whether they're doing metabolomics research to uncover the biological mechanisms of health and disease, diagnosing illness, or developing a new drug. Our award winning Corona CAD Plus reliably measures compounds, independent of molecular structure, to low nanogram levels. We believe our introduction of a new easy, fast and specific test for choline in whole blood or plasma will also create a lot of interest. The ESA HPLC Choline test is optimised for both the ESA Coulochem® and CoulArray® HPLC systems".

Charged Aerosol Detection is a robust HPLC detection technology that delivers advanced capabilities of interest to every HPLC user-lab. Besides excellent sensitivity, the Corona CAD shows consistent inter-analyte response independent of chemical structure, enabling quantitation across a range that exceeds four orders of magnitude. This first, real universal detector can also effectively analyse a wide diversity of chemical structures and classes. Corona CAD's revolutionary technology is applicable for measuring virtually any non- or semi-volatile compound such as drug compounds, carbohydrates, steroids, proteins, lipids, peptides and sugars. The groundbreaking method can be used effectively in a wide range of industries: pharmaceutical, industrial chemical, polymer, food and life science research.

ESA's Coulochem and CoulArray analytical systems are the most robust, flexible, and cost-effective electrochemical detection systems available today. These high-sensitivity systems are designed to achieve the highest level of performance. All are easy to implement, easy to run, and easy to maintain - so scientists can spend their precious time doing research with their instruments, not on their instruments! ESA offers a variety of electrochemical cells, including the best in both amperometric and coulometric technology, as well as optimized components so it can configure a system ideally suited to nearly every need.
