Bio-Rad announces use of MicroRotofor cell for NEW protein separation technique prior to SDS-PAGE and LC-MS/MS

24 Jul 2006

Bio-Rad Laboratories, Inc., a multinational manufacturer and distributor of life science research products and clinical diagnostics, today announced the use of its MicroRotofor™ cell for first-dimension protein separation prior to sodium dodecyl sulfate-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (SDS-PAGE) and liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS).

This new strategy equips researchers in their quest to uncover low-abundance proteins for biomarker discovery.

For first-dimension separation prior to SDS-PAGE, it has been demonstrated in research at the University of Reading (UK) that the MicroRotofor cell offers several advantages over traditional 2-D gel electrophoresis for proteomics. These include running samples in native or denaturing conditions and separation of proteins that are insoluble in gel-based separation methods. Also, unlike with some other chromatographic techniques, prefractionated samples can be directly analyzed on mini gels without including any concentration steps, thus speeding and facilitating the prefractionation workflow prior to LC-MS/MS analysis.
