Chiral Technologies' Clinton Amoss presented at the Eastern Analytical Symposium in Somerset, N.J. on November 13, 2007. His presentation titled "Enhancing Success Rate in Chiral Separation Development: CHIRALPAK IC, a New Selector in the Field of Immobilized Polysaccharide-derived Chiral Stationary phases for HPLC and SFC" is co-authored by Bruce Coryell, Geoffrey Cox, Tong Zhang, Dung Nguyen, and Pilar Franco.

Using applications mainly derived from the new CHIRALPAK IC column, the presentation outlined several method development strategies for obtaining the best success with the Platinum series of Immobilized Polysaccharide columns. HPLC method development is best carried out with a series of conventional and extended range solvents, which can be used in either isocratic or gradient mode.

SFC method development is also best carried out with a series of conventional and extended range modifiers. Combining three immobilized polysaccharide columns (IA, IB, IC) with all available solvents, one obtains a system that showed selectivity to more than 90% of the compounds tested in several large studies.
