The 'Safe' Series of products from Cleaver Scientific have been designed to make DNA electrophoresis procedures safer, more convenient and more economical to run.

It is widely acknowledged that the main hazards of traditional DNA gel electrophoresis lie in the use of Ethidium Bromide stain, a known mutagen and carcinogen, and using UV illumination sources which can cause eye and skin damage. Furthermore, traditional DNA electrophoresis is usually performed without researchers knowing much about what is happening on the gel unit until it is stopped and checked. This blind 'stop and start’ process, where an electrophoresis run is stopped at the time the researcher ‘thinks’ that the samples have separated out enough often makes getting optimised results from traditional DNA gel electrophoresis time-consuming and costly.

Cleaver Scientific's ‘Safe’ Series offers a safer and more user-friendly alternative to traditional methods as it eliminates the need for Ethidium Bromide and UV light, without compromising the results of electrophoresis procedures. This is accomplished combining the merits of 3 innovative products - runSAFE, runDOC and runVIEW®.

runSAFE, is a new and completely safe stain for DNA gel electrophoresis. Cleaver Scientific's runVIEW® is an innovative new system which can be used to maximise the efficiency of DNA recovery from stained gels by minimising the number of steps involved in post-electrophoretic purification. runVIEW® uses a blue LED gel illuminator which is inherently safe. runDOC is a benchtop gel documentation system which sits above the gel tank and enables multiple real-time images of the process to be taken.

Combining Cleaver Scientific's runVIEW®, runSAFE and runDOC system provides a safe, convenient and easy-to-use integrated solution for DNA gel electrophoresis covering each stage of the process. Using runVIEW® and runSafe, researchers can now separate and view DNA bands in real-time. Having complete control of the electrophoresis experiment enables optimised results to be easily and quickly achieved. Further the integrated system enables casting, loading, running, staining, viewing and documentation of DNA and RNA gels in a completely safe environment which requires no additional equipment, space or dark room.
