G8 Dementia Summit Broadcasting Live Now

Live coverage of the G8 dementia summit is being transmitted today on the Dementia Challenge site. There will be live video streaming of all the main sessions and a live blog providing a written commentary.

The G8 dementia summit brings together ministers, researchers, pharmaceutical companies and charities in London. The summit aims to develop co-ordinated global action on dementia and agree on what can be done to:

  • stimulate greater investment and innovation in dementia research
  • improve the prevention and treatment of dementia
  • improve quality of life for people with dementia

The event is being facilitated by Vivienne Parry, science writer and broadcaster.

Speakers include:

  • Jeremy Hunt, Secretary of State for Health
  • Peter Dunlop, who is living with dementia
  • Dr Margaret Chan, Director General of the World Health Organization (WHO)
  • Yves Leterme, Deputy Secretary General, The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD)

The topics for discussion during the day include:

  • improving life and care for people affected by dementia and their carers
  • preventing and delaying dementia
  • social adaptation to global ageing and dementia
