Nonlinear Dynamics Ltd, a leading provider of image analysis and bioinformatics solutions, and Hoefer, Inc. (Hoefer), a subsidiary of Harvard Bioscience (HBIO) and world-renowned supplier of gel electrophoresis equipment, today announced a worldwide distribution agreement. Under the new agreement, Nonlinear’s TotalLab 1D image analysis range will be supplied with the ULTima range of imaging systems from Hoefer.

The TotalLab range offers solutions designed and developed to meet the varying demands of the life science laboratory. The TL100, which will be included with all ULTima systems, is Nonlinear’s entry-level software and offers users a fast, consistent analysis of their 1D images. It contains a wide range of tools for the quantitation and calibration of 1D gels, all contained within a wizard style interface which guides the user through their analysis. In addition, there are modules for the analysis of arrays, dot/slot blots and colonies as well as a range of generic analysis tools. The more advanced TL120 solution is for scientists using 1D electrophoresis who require additional functionality to perform band pattern matching studies. The TL120 can be supplied with the DM database, which allows extensive data mining and comparative studies.

The Hoefer ULTima imaging platform, incorporating the latest advances in electronics and optics, provides a fast, easy-to-use and affordable gel documentation system with superior dynamic range for proteomic and genomic applications. ULTima’s unique image positioning system uses patented optics to enable simple, accurate positioning with no loss of optical resolution and no need to open the cabinet or manually adjust a fragile gel. Handling the most demanding applications without the need for an expensive laser scanning system, the multitasking ULTima has a small footprint and is fully equipped for GLP validation and verification.

John Spreadbury, Group Sales and Marketing Director of Nonlinear Dynamics and CEO, Nonlinear USA Inc., said “We are delighted to enter into this agreement with Hoefer as they have an excellent reputation in the gel electrophoresis marketplace. The TotalLab range perfectly complements the new ULTima imaging system, and scientists purchasing this newly developed platform can be confident they are also getting the most advanced 1D image analysis software available for their research.”

Ramana Tadepalli, Sales and Marketing Director of Hoefer, added, “We have always offered our customers the best gel electrophoresis equipment, but the combination of the ULTima system and the distribution agreement with Nonlinear means that Hoefer can now offer scientists even more – a high quality imaging platform complete with the leading 1D image analysis package. The TotalLab range of software is extremely well respected in the life science market and by entering into this agreement, we now provide our customers with the complete solution to support their 1D gel workflow.”
