Abbott has announced the launch of two web-based laboratory information management systems to enable laboratories to make data management simpler, better integrated, and more user-friendly.

STARLIMS Life Sciences Solution CL 11.0, which includes the industries of pre-clinical, clinical research, biorepository, molecular and academic research, and STARLIMS Quality Manufacturing Solution QM 11.1, which includes the industries of pharmaceutical, biotech, chemical, food and beverage and petrochemical/refining, are both new offerings built on the latest version of the STARLIMS Technology platform 11.6.

Continual improvements in laboratory information management system (LIMS) platforms are crucial as regulatory scrutiny increases, the amount of data grows exponentially, many industries move towards molecular testing and precision medicine, and pressure mounts to bring new products to market faster. Both new products are fully integrated solutions, which include an industry leading Advanced Analytics platform.

Advanced Analytics allows clients to analyze lab data via enhanced data visualization capabilities, which enables better, faster, and business-critical, decision making. The integrated solution also includes a Scientific Data Management System (SDMS), Electronic Laboratory Notebook (ELN), and mobile capabilities, with a powerful LIMS as the centerpiece.

"STARLIMS was designed to empower laboratories around the world to deliver high-quality, safe products to market as quickly as possible," said Mark Spencer, vice president and general manager, Informatics, Abbott. "These enhancements to STARLIMS Life Sciences and Quality Manufacturing solutions reflect Abbott’s ongoing commitment to innovation and meeting customer needs."

STARLIMS Life Sciences Solution CL 11.0 features intuitive enhancements for streamlining sample management, simplifying accessioning, interfacing with third party instruments and the conversion to HTML5 web platform. These upgrades are designed to increase lab flexibility, productivity and efficiency, and reduce the complexities of working with different software platforms.

"Laboratories make major investments in analytical equipment but interfacing proprietary instrument software directly with some LIMS can be problematic," said Mark Spencer. "Thanks to a partnership between Abbott and Data Innovation, the STARLIMS Life Sciences Solution can now connect directly with an even wider range of third party instrumentation, giving laboratories more freedom to choose their tools based on scientific and business requirements rather than data system limitations."

STARLIMS Quality Manufacturing Solution QM 11.1 offers the following benefits:

• A new, integrated request management portal, a user-friendly, customizable dashboard, and out-of-the-box, pre-aided graphical workflows for five key testing lifecycles (manufacturing, contract laboratories, stability, environmental, and process samples). The integrated portal allows for direct management of test requests within the STARLIMS QM Solution, rather than the support of a third-party platform.

• Additional updates include Northwest Analytical (NWA) trending enhancements, mobility applications, and regulatory and performance enhancements.

• Supports laboratory productivity and efficiency across diverse sectors of the global manufacturing industry.

"Manufacturers can operate more effectively if they have a real-time, holistic view of workflow progress in their laboratories," adds Spencer. "The product enhancements in the new version of the STARLIMS QM Solution not only provide an intuitive visual interface but also help ensure transparency and support regulatory compliance."
