JUST LAUNCHED A Fully Automated Solution for the Production of Certifiable Reagents for IC and HPLC from Metrohm
10 Feb 2006Preparation of mobile phases for Ion Chromatography (IC) and High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) can be time consuming and for semi skilled workers there is the very real possibility of errors occurring. One way to ensure batch to batch reproducibility is to buy in a previously prepared certified reagent as generation of eluents by electrolytic means requires the use of costly replacement cartridges and more importantly it cannot be certifiable by the very nature of the way in which the eluent was produced.
New from Metrohm comes the 845 Eluent Synthesizer incorporating Valid ICT which guarantees cost effective, certified reagents at the touch of a button fully controlled by computer and completely GLP compliant with the production of a certificate that documents the preparation procedure and all the production data. The 845 Eluent Synthesizer allows the possibility of preparing an infinite variety of different solutions, dilutions and mixtures for use as eluents, standards, buffer solutions or reagents for any chemical application. The solutions can be organic or inorganic, ionic or non ionic, aqueous or non aqueous, virtually anything required by the application - be it IC or HPLC based - is feasible.
The 845 Eluent Synthesizer allows work in research, analysis and quality assurance and the automation helps to reduce the costs compared to the historical manual preparation of eluents or those done by electrolytic generation. The fully automatic system guarantees reproducibility of precise mixtures and helps avoid errors by virtue that all the calculations are performed by the instrument itself in volumes, moles or milligrams. The automated procedure is based on proven DosinoT technology which allows high precision dosing to be carried out with the option of pH modification if required.
The 845 Eluent Synthesizer is controlled by the <<Mix Control>> software where particular emphasis has been given to the ease of operation though the use of pictograms. The Valid ICT interface produces a freely definable report once production of the reagent has been completed that contains all the necessary GLP compliant documentation. An audit trail records every working step providing additional security and traceability and each method can be signed electronically.
Many chemical manufacturers offer chemicals that are recommended for use with Valid ICT for the production of certified IC eluents and this can be concentrated solutions in either bottle or bag form. In the simplest case when full certification is not required, then the concentrates can be prepared from the solid buffer salt. In the case of preparation of standards, Metrohm recommends the use of PRIMUST, a unique primary standard for IC and a collaboration between Metrohm and Fluka with the Materials Testing and Research Institutes of BAM (Germany) and EMPA (Switzerland).
The 845 Eluent Synthesizer has been favorably priced to offer all institutions the opportunity to benefit from this fully certifiable analytical solution that is available with either a single DosinoT for one mobile phase (or other reagent) or two DosinosT for the production of two mobile phases (e.g. anion and cation eluents).
