New Ion Chromatography Solutions for Dedicated Water Analysis: RFIC™ Systems with Eluent Regeneration

26 Feb 2007

Dionex introduces a new technology for dedicated entry-level systems–Reagent-Free™ Ion Chromatography systems with Eluent Regeneration (RFIC ER™ systems).

Eluent Regeneration is a novel technique where an electrolytic suppressor is used to regenerate the starting eluent, allowing non-stop operation of an ICS-1000 or ICS-1500 system for up to four weeks. This continuous operation increases productivity by eliminating the need for daily re-equilibration and re-calibration. The system uses innovative and patented approaches to purify the suppressor regenerant effluent so that it is converted into the pure electrolyte solution for re-use as eluent. Eluent Regeneration is compatible with any Dionex ICS-1000 or ICS-1500 system running carbonate/bicarbonate or methanesulfonic acid eluents.

RFIC-ER systems are targeted for the analysis of common anions and cations in low contamination matrices, including drinking water, surface water and groundwater, making it ideal for U.S. EPA Method 300.0 Part A, U.S. EPA Method 300.1 Part A or equivalent applications. RFIC-ER systems provide many of the same advantages as traditional RFIC Eluent Generation (RFIC-EG™) systems, including ease-of-use and consistency; however, RFIC-ER systems provide a low-cost alternative to RFIC-EG systems, while providing key new benefits of non-stop operation and reduced waste.

Commercialization of the RFIC-ER concept is due in the latter half of 2007. Kits for converting existing ICS-1000 and ICS-1500 systems will be available, as will bundles for new systems.
