Symyx Technologies, Inc. has announced the availability of Powdernium SV (Storage Vial), a new shaker powder dispense technology ideal for novel applications such as compound management, walk-up sample prep and reference standards preparation.

Powdernium SV acts as a hybrid vial hopper and storage vessel that enables low-cost storage without the requirement to sub-divide materials, helping to save and optimally manage precious resource materials. Symyx Powdernium SV is being showcased at LabAutomation 2009 (booth 219) in Palm Springs (CA, USA).

"By offering an all-encompassing powder dispense solution that integrates seamlessly with Symyx Integrated Workflows, Symyx is providing customers with increased versatility and functionality that ultimately leads to improved R&D cost savings," said Richard Boehner, president of Symyx High Productivity Research. "Powdernium SV Powder Dispense is a superior solution that provides unprecedented flexibility and ease of operation through the use of commercially available, non-proprietary vials."

An important differentiator of Symyx's new shaker powder dispense technology is a patent-pending valve cap that provides precision flow regulation and quick-access storage without cross contamination, helping to maintain integrity and the accuracy of powder dispense results. Additionally, the new valve cap and vial hopper dispense technology is disposable, thus neither cleaning nor carry-over are required.

Symyx pioneered microscale, high-throughput technology and continues to develop specialised tools, such as Powdernium SV, that enable a single scientist to rapidly explore a broad experimental space and develop comprehensive data sets in days - not weeks or months. When deployed effectively, powder dispense technology can significantly improve the accuracy and throughput of a range of workflows. For chemical and clinical supply manufacturers, dispense methods often determine whether companies meet business goals or fall behind the competition.
