New Separation Device Dramatically Improves Nanoparticle Clean-Up and Purification

On behalf of its parent company SiMPore, Inc., TEMwindows is pleased to introduce the SepCon™ Spin Column, a revolutionary separation device that makes it possible to separate nanoparticles that differ in size by 5 nm or less. Designed specifically for nanoparticle separations, it utilizes SiMPore's ultrathin silicon nanoporous UltraSM® membrane.

Unlike conventional polymer membranes, SepCon™ can fractionate nanoparticles between less than 5 and 40 nm with recovery of both fractions and will enable nanoparticle researchers to remove unused reactants from syntheses, purify samples through buffer exchange, and fractionate particles in a mixture according to size.

TEMwindows will be showcasing the new SepCon™ Spin Column at the upcoming 2009 Materials Research Society (MRS) Fall Meeting in Boston, Massachusetts, November 30th through December 4th. The company expects to begin taking orders for the new product in January 2010. In the interim, interested researchers are invited to participate in a free product trial program (see Company article page link top right of this page for details).

At the 2009 MRS Fall Meeting, TEMwindows will also be exhibiting its full line of pure silicon UltraSM®, silicon oxide, and silicon nitride TEM windows. The company recently launched a 20 nm thick silicon nitride grid and added 100 µm frame options for many of its products. Compared to widely used carbon windows, UltraSM® TEM Windows have uniform thinness, improved stability, and can handle extensive plasma cleaning.
