Ozone-Free and Non-Toxic: Leica CM1900 Rapid Sectioning Cryostat Now with UVC Disinfection: Leica CM1900 UV!

15 Nov 2006

Leica Microsystems presents the new Leica CM1900 UV Routine Diagnostic cryostat with UVC disinfection focused on outstanding operator safety. When sectioning fresh tissue specimens in routine histology and clinical pathology the user increasingly faces highly infectious viruses (HBV, HIV and BSE), bacteria and fungi.

To provide additional protection in combination with the use of personal protective equipment (gloves, masks and safety goggles) the new Leica CM1900 UV features UVC disinfection. The entire cryo-chamber can be rapidly and effectively disinfected with ultra violet (UVC) light at any time without warming or defrosting.

Risks for the laboratory personnel dealing with potentially infectious materials are significantly reduced. The efficiency of UVC rays for surface disinfection in the Leica CM1900 UV cryostat has been proven and certified by an independent laboratory. To be doubly sure, smooth surfaces inside the cryo-chamber allow easy, rapid and safe chemical spray disinfection with commercial spray disinfectants. The splash-proof microtome is protected by a slot cover to prevent infectious materials from entering the microtome housing.

The Leica CM1900 UV rapid sectioning cryostat provides optimum conditions for receiving reproducible sectioning results within a few minutes. Extremely rapid freezing through a quick freezing shelf for up to 10 specimens, as well as an independent specimen cooling for brief and frequent temperature changes are only two major details that allow quick specimen processing of large quantities of specimens.
