Rapid, Efficient Identification and Measurement of Biomarkers

12 Feb 2007

ESA Biosciences Inc. has announced that its Metabolomics System is providing researchers with a powerful tool to identify and monitor small molecule cellular biomarkers of disease and disease treatment.

Based upon the company's proprietary CoulArray® technology, the system uses a series of highly efficient coulometric electrochemical cells to specifically monitor metabolically active small molecule cellular components. Combining the well-known sensitivity and selectivity of electrochemical detection with a powerful data-analysis package, the Metabolomics System enables rapid and sensitive identification and measurement of physiologically relevant biomolecules even in highly complex samples.

To fully understand and appreciate a biological system requires an understanding of the small organic molecules (anti-oxidants, enzyme co-factors, cellular metabolites, vitamins, etc.) responsible for the maintenance of routine physiological functions. Changes in the levels of these molecules caused by disease or external stimuli can play an important role in the development or progression of disease and in understanding and measuring adverse drug effects. The Metabolomics System offers the advantage of being able to study a variety of molecules quickly and accurately. In addition, the system can distinguish minute changes in metabolomics patterns and components.

ESA Biosciences, Inc. enables answers to pressing applications challenges by applying its expertise in specialty detection and electrochemistry, combined with components, kits, and reagents, for analytical laboratories, commercial diagnostics laboratories, and the clinical point-of-care setting. ESA is a wholly owned subsidiary of Magellan Biosciences, Inc. For more information, visit the article webpage.
