On July 31st, the AACC will host the 68th AACC Annual Meeting and Clinical Lab Expo. Every year the world's largest clinical meeting brings together industry thought leaders to present breakthrough technological and research innovations.
Elizabeth Holmes to break silence
This year is particularly exciting, as the embattled Theranos CEO, Elizabeth Holmes, is to present data on the company’s proprietary finger-prick testing technology. Theranos gained national prominence when it claimed that it could carry out a whole range of analytical tests using just a single droplet of blood.
Despite being notoriously secretive about the company’s technology to date, Ms Holmes is to present details of the platform to AACC delegates, who are leading experts in the field of clinical laboratory science. Meeting delegates will be given the opportunity to participate in a genuine Q&A session with Ms Holmes (allowing unscreened questions to be asked). This discussion will enable industry experts to assess the accuracy and reliability of the technology, and to explore its impact on patient care.
You can attend the presentation on Monday, August 1st at 4:30–6 p.m. Grand Ballroom Pennsylvania Convention Center, Philadelphia.
Plenary session highlights
As usual, the AACC Meeting has a busy and exciting program of sessions planned for attendees. This year the plenaries will feature presentations by distinguished experts on the use of and testing for cannabis; the intelligent surgical knife using state-of-the-art mass spectrometry; programmable bio-nano-chips; epigenetic causes of disease; and combatting premature death from preventable causes such as tobacco and alcohol.

Late-breaking sessions
Sessions have also been added to the schedule on the treatment and detection of Zika virus; hepatitis C research updates; interventional gene therapy including gene editing and therapeutic interventions; and the use of disruptive technology in laboratory science.
