Viscotek Shows Advanced Technologies for Polymer, Proteins and Nanomaterials Characterization at ACS Fall Meeting 2009

Viscotek, a Malvern company, is exhibiting its advanced technologies for characterizing natural and synthetic polymers, copolymers, biopolymers, proteins and nanomaterials at the American Chemical Society’s Fall Meeting 2009 (August 16-20, 2009; Washington, DC, USA). These include the TDAmax™ gel permeation chromatography/size exclusion chromatography (GPC/SEC) system, which features an integrated triple or tetra detector array. As part of this setup, the recently introduced photo diode array (PDA) detector captures absorption spectra across the UV-vis wavelength range, delivering a fingerprint of each ‘time slice’ of the sample as it elutes from the column.

GPC/SEC is a chromatographic technique that separates natural and synthetic polymers, biopolymers and nanoparticles on the basis of size. When coupled with advanced detectors a range of additional parameters can be determined. Viscotek GPC/SEC technology provides absolute molecular weight, molecular size (Rg and Rh) and intrinsic viscosity as well as information on structure, conformation, aggregation, branching, copolymer and conjugate composition. Delivering a wealth of information from a single experiment, Viscotek’s proprietary technologies encompass:

• Advanced column technology for an extended range of applications
• Low Angle Light Scattering (LALS) that delivers absolute molecular weight without the need for extrapolation, correction, assumptions or data fits
• Digital transducer viscometer technology which improves data accuracy, precision and resistance to corrosive solvents
