Gas Calibration Unit (GCU)
For most trace gas analyzers, calibration is the standard practice to ensure accurate quantification of target substances. The IONICON GCU has been developed to produce precisely controlled concentrations at trace levels with the possibility to adjust the gas matrix humidity and CO2 content for calibration at sample gas conditions. Mass Spectrometry
The gas calibration unit (advanced model) offers PTR-MS and PTR-TOFMS users the opportunity to calibrate their instrument from cylinder-based gas standards. It can be additionally operated as a zero-air generator, which is a useful feature when carrying out dynamic headspace analyses. In the advanced model (GCU-a), the carrier gas humidity can be varied from dry conditions to 100 % RH at 40 °C, and CO2 can be optionally spiked into this gas stream at steady concentrations. This makes it ideal for calibrating the PTR-MS at exhaled breath conditions, which is essential when carrying out in vivo aroma release or medical breath analysis studies. This unit is an excellent tool for ensuring steady performance of your PTR-MS instrument for a handful of VOCs. Highly recommended.

GCU has been designed as a stand-alone device for use with all trace gas analyzers but is especially suited to calibrate IONICON PTR-MS devices.
The GCU produces defined trace gas concentrations by diluting a gas calibration standard with clean air. Using digital mass flow controllers, the mixing ratios are precisely controlled and can be adjusted to produce different concentrations with mixing ratios between 1:9 and 1:5000.
