Hana Single Cell Dispenser
The Namocell Hana Single Cell Dispenser makes single cell isolation and sorting effortless with 1 laser and 2 fluorescent channels. Hana offers 3 sorting modes for versatile cell isolation: Single Cell Dispensing, Rare Cell Enrichment and Bulk Cell Sorting. This benchtop instrument uses microfluidics technology that combines flow cytometry and liquid dispensing to sort and dispense single cells directly into 96-well or 384-we…

Sorting edited cells
It certainly requires some training to use but isn't terrible to work with. I have never used another sorter to compare. I have been able to successfully sort engineered cell lines using this machine.

Single cell cloning
The machine works very well for our purposes of single cell dispensing, primarily gene edited lines. The machine is easy to use with quick support in the rare times we needed troubleshooting help. The setup and dispensing time is very short. It has the benefits of a FACS machine (binning by forward/side scatter), with lower pressure to help increase cell survival.

Isolate single plant cells
The Namocell Hana was an excellent purchase for our lab. It isolates single cells into 96 or 384 well plates as well as advertised and is incredibly fast and easy to use. The initialization and shutdown times are merely a few minutes, compared to ~30-45 minutes with a FACS or BioSorter, and cell sorting/isolation is often less than 10 minutes for a whole plate. The software and initial setup is easy and straightforward and the Namocell customer service has been quick to respond. The primary benefit of the Hana has been that we no longer have to rely on shared instruments during the pandemic. Overall, we would highly recommend this instrument for any lab doing single cell research.

Isolation and cloning of fluorescent cells
The instrument has performed well. It has effectively isolated our cells of interest and increased the rate and ease of generating clonal cell lines with our preferred characteristics. Due to its simplicity and clear user interface, it has permitted rapid training of lab personnel who utilize the equipment with minimal supervision. Any requests for support and guidance during initial set-up and training were rapidly addressed with thoughtful consideration.

iPSC and CRISPR - clonal cell line generation
Our stem cell core facility was looking for ways to speed up our human induced pluripotent cell cloning to generate clonal cell lines and to analyze our gene editing efficiencies in single cells. Our criteria for an instrument for single cell dispensing was 1) sterility, 2) gentle on cells, 3) ease of use, and 4) reasonable cost. The Namocell fitted our criteria perfectly. The instrument was relatively easy to use and technical support was excellent! We are able to reduce the time and effort for generating clonal CRISPR-engineered iPSC lines significantly. The instrument requires very little maintenance and users do not need to be highly trained with the main requirement being good aseptic technique. We are excited to use the Namocell potentially for other single cell applications.

Cell sorting on zebrafish embryonic cardiac cells
During cell sorting, air in the tubes caused machine trouble, but this was quickly remedied by troubleshooting via video chat.

Cell sorting
Although we have yet to truly use the Hana outside of training, the knowledge and customer service of the Namocell team made this addition to our workflow easy and enjoyable. Our other site in the UK has had a Hana, and on their recommendation we purchased one of our own. Daniel and Junyu answered all of our questions, and were excellent resources when we had additional questions or needed assistance. We look forward to continuing to use the Hana!

Cell sorting for single cell sequencing
We've been using the Hana to do single cell sorting for genomics/transcriptomics applications as well as for colony selection for tissue culture. We're overall very satisfied with our results and find setup to be very easy, as well as standard maintenance. After sterility protocols (which can take an hour), being able to immediately jump to sorting in less than ten minutes has saved us time and precious samples. When our valve failed during the early part of the pandemic, we were able to ship the unit back with an easy replacement and turnaround of two weeks! Service has been excellent as well.

Cell line development
The Hana has had a positive impact on our workflow. We are now able, with a high degree of confidence, to generate clonal populations of cells with reduced cytotoxicity (compared to FACS) while simultaneously saving hands-on time due to not needing to immediately screen for single-cells after manual limited dilutions. In many cell lines, we see a significantly higher efficiency of clonality from plate to plate compared to our previous methods. Setting up the instrument took some time. There was a relatively short learning curve on how to operate the instrument as well as another learning curve to understand the instruments nuances. Once understood, there have been no issues that couldn't be resolved with technical support, which was always rapid.
