Dye dilution analysis requires extremely bright fluorescent dyes, which is supplied by the Cell Trace CFSE dye. Using this dye, eight or more generations can be visualized. The reliable and homogeneous staining among cells in the population allows for visualization of distinct generations without the use of complex modeling software.

The CellTrace CFSE dye easily crosses the plasma membrane and covalently binds inside cells, providing a consistent signal, even after several days in a cell culture environment. The dye shows little cytotoxicity.
