MycoAlert™ PLUS Mycoplasma Detection Kit

Lonza Group LtdLT07-701Available: Worldwide

The MycoAlert™ PLUS Assay is a selective biochemical test that exploits the activity of mycoplasmal enzymes which are found in all six of the main mycoplasma cell culture contaminants and the vast majority of 180 mycoplasma species, but are not present in eukaryotic cells. Viable mycoplasma in a test sample (cell supernatant or fresh media or supplements) are lysed and the enzymes react with the MycoAlert™ PLUS Substrate, c…

Fast way to test for mycoplasma

Average Rating 4.7

Application Area:

Mycoplasma testing

The Lonza MycoAlert PLUS Mycoplasma Detection Kit is a quick and convenient way to detect viable mycoplasma in cell cultures. Because the protocol can be performed quite fast (20-30 min) it enables the routine testing of cells in culture and in all reagents used in the complete media. I strongly recommend testing for mycoplasma after the weekend when the media was not change for at least 24-48 h. If the test shows a border line result you can either repeat the test the day after or try a more sensitive method like PCR (which is definitely time consuming).

The MycoAlert™ PLUS Assay is a selective biochemical test that exploits the activity of mycoplasmal enzymes which are found in all six of the main mycoplasma cell culture contaminants and the vast majority of 180 mycoplasma species, but are not present in eukaryotic cells.

Viable mycoplasma in a test sample (cell supernatant or fresh media or supplements) are lysed and the enzymes react with the MycoAlert™ PLUS Substrate, catalyzing the conversion of ADP to ATP. The ATP is then transferred into a light signal via the luciferase enzyme in the MycoAlert™ PLUS Reagent. By measuring the level of ATP in a sample both before (read A) and after the addition of the MycoAlert™ PLUS Substrate (read B), a ratio can be obtained which is indicative of the presence or absence of mycoplasma.

Convenient & fast:

  • Simply add two reagents to the culture supernatant.
  • Perform two luminescence readings.
  • Results in < 20 min.
  • Easy interpretation of results.

Universal:

  • Detects all common mollicute contaminations (Mycoplasma, Acholeplasma, Entomoplasma andSpiroplasma; except Ureaplasma).
  • Suited for tube luminometers, plate luminometers and multifunctional readers.
