Dynamic Light Scattering (DLS) is commonly used for nanoparticle characterisation. With Photon Correlation Spectroscopy (PCS), scattered light intensities of particles under thermal motion are auto-correlated in order to determine the particle size distribution of nanosuspensions. However, this conventional technology requires extremely diluted samples to provide meaningful results.

Sympatec is considered a pioneer of Photon Cross-Correlation Spectroscopy (PCCS). The outstanding technological feature is the acquisition of two separately inducted scattered light intensities and their cross-correlation, which enables a robust measurement in a wide concentration spectrum. The NANOPHOX CS goes a decisive step further with the polarisation-separated backscatter PCCS. The combination of backscattering and polarisation separation opens up reliable and repeatable analysis of nanoparticles in suspensions and emulsions in their original concentration with measurement times of less than one minute. In addition to size, the aggregation or sedimentation behaviour of nanosuspensions (i.e. stability) may be analysed.

Outstanding Performance Features:
• Up to one hundred times higher sample concentrations | Measurement of samples directly in their original concentration without dilution
• Up to ten times shorter measurement times | Measurements under one minute
• Improved accuracy and repeatability of measurement results

Further PCCS Advantages:
• Reliable analysis of nanoparticle size, size distribution and stability behavior in turbid suspensions and emulsions
• Robust method for research, development and quality control
• Measuring range from 0.5 nm to 10,000 nm
• Samples concentration from 0.0001 Vol.-% to approx. 20 Vol.-%
• Elimination of multiple scattering effects ensures concentration-independent particle analysis and reduction of sample preparation errors
• Easy sample preparation without undesired dilution series
• Insensitive to sample contamination
• Strong sensitivity for size changes as well as measurement of bimodal distributions
• Solid-state measuring method for in-situ observation of changes in stability or size
• Fully compliant with FDA requirements and 21 CFR Rule 1
