RADIAN ASAP Direct Mass Detector
The Power of Knowing Now
Analysis of Unknowns
The Radian mass spectrometer is a really useful tool in our laboratory. You can get results in 30 seconds. I have given this instrument to untrained undergraduate students and they have been able to get mass spectra which they can then interpret to determine the identity of unknowns. They can introduce fragmentation to help with this. It works well for positive and negative ionising materials and even at sub-ppm levels. The running costs are really low - we run it on low grade nitrogen and use cheap melting point capillary tubes which are a couple of £ for a pack. It's not a high end, high resolution instrument but for what it is and what it does it's fab!
